What changed in each release of Lyric Genie, newest first.

Every page of these docs says which version of the app it was written against, at the foot of the page. This is where that number leads: what actually changed, newest first.

The log starts at 2.19. Anything older shipped before we kept one.

Waveforms that show up wherever the recording goes, a fix for long lyrics, and some care for iPad.

Waveforms#

They show up on every device. Each recording now carries its own waveform, so it appears straight away on a co-writer's phone, your iPad or a new phone, instead of sitting blank until you press play and download the audio.

Long recordings are no longer heavy to draw. Working out a waveform used to hold the whole recording in memory at once — over 2 GB for an hour-long file — which could stall or close the app. It now takes the same small amount however long the audio is.

iPad#

Recordings draw their waveform in twice the detail across the wider screen.
The Record, Import and Freestyle sheets draw bars the same size as on iPhone, rather than cramming or stretching them to fit.
The Record sheet no longer cuts the record button off at the bottom.

Fixed#

With very long lyrics, the bottom of the song could be cut off after inserting a transcription or pasting a large block of text. The editor now always makes room for all of it.

Projects have colours, the Action Button can start a take without you opening the app, and a few things that used to leave a mess behind no longer do.

Projects have colours#

Name it and colour it in one sheet. Creating a project now asks for both, and editing one opens the same sheet with the name and colour filled in. The palette is the same seven that concepts use, and each new project is offered the next colour along, so a list of them varies without you choosing.

Songs say which folders they are in. A line above the song title names every project the song is filed in, each in its own colour. It reads the same wherever you see the song, including inside a folder.

Tap a folder name to go to that folder. The rest of the row still opens the song.

Start writing without opening the app#

Three shortcuts. Start a recording, start a Freestyle, or open a blank song. Put any of them on the Action Button, ask Siri, or drop them into a Shortcut. A recording starts the moment the app is up, so the idea is captured while you are still reaching for it.

Concepts#

Colours without choosing them. Every new concept takes the next colour along, and a generated batch walks the palette, so a full tab reads at a glance instead of as a wall of one colour.

A rebuilt Generate Concepts sheet, matching the rest of the app rather than looking like a form bolted on. The switches now say why they are unavailable when they are.

Recordings#

Search when filing a recording. Adding a recording to a song used to mean scrolling your whole library. There is a search field on that sheet now.

Archived songs are no longer offered as somewhere to file a recording.

Fixed#

Backing out of a new song, or cancelling a Freestyle, no longer leaves an empty song called "My Song" behind.
The project colour picker stretched the sheet wider than the screen on every iPhone except the Pro Max. It now fits any width.
Freestyle's Undo uses the same backspace icon as the one in Record, rather than a different glyph for the same job.
Freestyle's Import adds a file to the end of the take rather than being described as though it replaced it. See Freestyle.
