Short answers to the questions people ask before they try the app.

Answers here are deliberately short. Each one links to the page that goes into it properly.

Is there a web version#

Yes. The web app is at app.lyricgenie.app, and it runs in a desktop or phone browser. Almost everything is in both apps: writing, the rhyme and syllable tools, Wish Workshop, Genie, recordings, concepts, projects, collaboration and Pro.

A few things are in one app only:

iPhone only: Freestyle, transcribing voice memos, the share extension, Siri and the Action Button for recording an idea, and deleting your account.
Web only: reading two tabs side by side, and, in a session, sharing your DAW or your screen. Sessions themselves are on both.

Each page of these docs says where the two differ, and the switch in the top bar picks which one you read.

Do my songs sync between iPhone and web#

Yes. Both apps use the same account, so a song written on one is there on the other, and lyrics, recordings, concepts and projects all appear in both. Sign in with the same Google or Apple button you use on your iPhone. See Signing in.

Which browsers does the web app work in#

Recording and importing audio need Chrome, Edge or Safari, because the browser has to be able to make AAC audio. Firefox cannot record or import audio. See Supported formats.

Yes. Click Upgrade in the web app's Settings. One subscription covers the web app and the iOS app on iPhone and iPad, so you never need two. New subscribers get the first 14 days free, on either app. See Plans and Pro.

How do I cancel Pro#

Where you subscribed. If you subscribed on the web, click Cancel subscription in the web app's Settings. If you subscribed in the iOS app, cancel in your Apple ID's subscriptions, because Apple bills it. Either way you keep Pro to the end of the period you paid for. See Plans and Pro.

In the web app. Click Upgrade in Settings, then Have a code? under the plans, and type it in. A code that makes Pro free skips the trial and does not ask for a card. Each code works once. See Plans and Pro.

Does it write songs for me#

No, and it will not try. Every AI feature in Lyric Genie works on material you have already given it: a line to rewrite, a song with a mood and a theme attached, a phrase to find rhymes for. There is no button that produces a finished song from nothing.

The closest thing is Creative Spark, which writes new material for a song that already has an AI Context. See Wish Workshop.

Do I need Pro#

Not to write, not to record, and not to collaborate. The free plan gives you unlimited songs, 60 minutes of recordings, 30 rhyme lookups a day, 15 AI calls and 50 quick AI calls.

Every AI feature can be tried on the free plan. Pro raises the limits, keeps your original audio files, and lets you start sessions. See Plans and Pro and Plan limits.

Can my collaborator use the free plan#

Yes. Collaboration is free on both sides. Inviting, tabs, sending lines, chat and the Master work the same for a free collaborator as for a Pro one. That includes sessions: starting one needs Pro, but a free collaborator can join any session a Pro writer is in.

Yes, and it is what makes syncing work. Your songs and recordings live in your account, so the same library appears on every device you sign in on.

Sign-in is Google or Apple. There is no email and password option. See Signing in.

I signed in with Google before and now I used Apple. Where are my songs#

In the Google account. Those are two separate accounts even with the same email address behind them. Sign out and back in with the other button. Nothing is lost.

Does it work offline#

Writing and recording do. Transcription and every AI feature need a connection, because the work happens on a server. If you lose the network mid-recording, the audio is kept and the words are not.

Can I get my lyrics out#

Yes, two ways. A lyric sheet publishes one song as a web page with your writer credits, at a link you can send to anyone. The share action also gives you plain text. See Lyric sheets.

Is a lyric sheet public#

Anyone with the link can open it. There is no password on it and it is not listed anywhere, so it is as private as the link is. It is also frozen at the moment you made it.

Can I delete a lyric sheet I already sent#

Yes. Open the song, choose Lyric Sheet from the ⋯ menu, and delete it from the Previous Sheets list. The link stops working for everyone at once.

Deleting your account does not do this for you, because sheets are published pages rather than account data. Take them down first if you want them gone. See Lyric sheets.

How many people can write on one song#

Up to eight, you included. Invites nobody has used yet count toward the eight, so cancel one you no longer need to make room. Each writer gets a tab. See Inviting a collaborator.

Does my collaborator see me typing#

They can see that you are, and where. While you are both in a song, each of you shows as here, and a collaborator who is writing shows as Writing in and the section, such as Chorus. Opening a collaborator's tab also shows their cursor and selection in their colour, and their words appear on that tab as they type them. On the iPhone that needs version 2.22 or later.

What they cannot do is type over you. Each writer has their own tab and their own copy of the lyrics, and you move material between them deliberately, by sending it. The one shared tab, the Master, takes one writer at a time.

Can we talk while we write#

Yes, with a session: live video and voice with your collaborators, inside the song, with the lyrics still in front of you. Sessions work on the web and in the iPhone app from version 2.23, where a session behaves like a phone call. Starting one needs Pro; joining a Pro writer's session is free. Every shared song also has a chat. See Sessions.

Can my DAW play into a session#

Yes, once sessions open. Put the Lyric Genie Session plugin on your DAW's master and it sends a copy of the audio into the session, so collaborators hear the track directly rather than through your microphone. Only the person sharing needs it, on a Mac or PC with the web app open. Anyone can listen, including on an iPhone. See Share your DAW live.

Can I search my lyrics#

Yes. On the web, the search at the top of Home, or ⌘K (Ctrl K on Windows), searches songs, every line on every tab including the Master, notes, chat, recordings, ideas, concepts and projects. In the iOS app, the search on the Songs tab matches titles, lyrics and AI Context. See Search everything.

What is the Master tab for#

The version you have agreed on. Anyone on the song can type in it, one writer at a time: whoever is typing holds a lock on the Master tab until they let go or stop for 30 seconds. You can also send your best sections to it from your own tab. See The Master.

Can I import lyrics I wrote somewhere else#

Yes. Paste them in, or import a file. Section headers are recognised on the way in, with or without brackets, so [Chorus] and Chorus both become a chorus. See Importing files.

Why did my stanza spacing change#

It should not any more. A version before 2.18 could flatten the spacing of earlier stanzas while you typed, and leaving the song and returning would restore it. Update if you are seeing it.
