Co-writer chat

Talk a shared song through with your co-writers, right beside the lyrics, without leaving the song.

Web app onlyCo-writer chat is on the web app for now. It is coming to the iPhone app later.

Every shared song has a chat for the people writing it. Use it to ask about a line, agree what the chorus is about, or leave a note for whoever opens the song next.

Only the song's writers see it. Genie does not read it, so it is not the place to ask Genie something. For that, see Genie chat.

Finding the chat#

On a shared song, Chat is a section of the left panel, just under Collaborators. On a computer it also has an icon in the column of icons on the left edge of the window.

  • The expand button on the section's header, or the icon, opens the chat on its own at the full height of the panel.
  • The bar under the message box sets how tall the chat is inside the panel. Drag it up or down. Double-click it to put it back to its usual height.

A solo song has no chat. It appears once you invite someone. See Inviting a co-writer.

Sending messages#

Type in Message your co-writers and press Enter to send. Press Shift Enter for a new line in the same message.

Your messages sit on the right. Your co-writers' sit on the left, with their name and avatar in their tab colour.

While a co-writer is typing a message, the chat shows is typing… under the messages, and the Collaborators section shows Typing in chat… beside their name.

Deleting a message#

Point at one of your own messages and click the bin beside it. It goes for everyone. You can only delete your own messages.

New messages#

A red dot on the Chat heading, and on its icon in the left column, means there are messages you have not read. Reading the chat clears it.

Messages also show on your Songs list: a shared song shows a chat bubble with a red number for unread messages, which clears when you read the chat.

A co-writer who is not in the song when you send a message gets a new message notification in the bell. See Notifications. There are no iPhone push notifications for chat yet.
