Notes on lyrics

Highlight a word or a phrase in a song, leave a note on it, and talk it through with your co-writers in replies. Resolve a note when it's dealt with.

Showing the iOS appweb app

A note is a comment pinned to particular words in the lyrics. Use one to flag a line you are not sure about, ask a co-writer what they meant, or remind yourself to come back to a rhyme.

Notes sit on top of the lyrics. They are never part of the text, so they don't show up in a lyric sheet, in Perform, or in anything the AI reads.

Leaving a note#

Select the words the note is about: a word, a phrase or a few lines. Then:

Tap Note in the bar of actions along the bottom of the editor.

Open ⋯ More on the floating toolbar and choose Note. In a phone browser Note is in the row of buttons above the keyboard.

Type in Add a note on these words… and send it.

A note can be up to 1,000 characters.

You can leave a note on any tab: your own, a co-writer's, or the Master. It belongs to the tab you left it on, so a note on a co-writer's chorus stays with their chorus.

Finding notes in the lyrics#

Noted words are underlined in the colour of the writer who left the note. A small speech-bubble pin sits in the right margin, on the line where those words end.

Tap the pin to open the note. If several notes end on the same line, the pin shows how many and opens a list of them.

Click the pin, or put your cursor in the underlined words, and the note opens beside them. Pointing at a pin lights up the words it is about. In a phone browser the note opens as a sheet at the bottom of the screen.

Replying#

Every note is a small thread. Type in Reply… and send. Everyone on the song sees the note and every reply, with who wrote each one and when.

Press Enter to send, and Shift Enter for a new line.

Resolving a note#

When a note has been dealt with, click or tap Resolve. The underline and the pin leave the lyrics, but the note is kept. Reopen brings it back.

Anyone on the song can resolve or reopen a note.

Deleting a note#

The bin beside a note or a reply deletes it. You can delete what you wrote, and the song's owner can delete anything. Deleting a note deletes its replies with it, and it asks first.

The list of notes#

Notes is a section of the song panel on the left. It lists the open notes on the tab you are looking at, with the resolved ones folded underneath. Click one to jump to it and open it.

On a shared song, a line such as 2 notes on Sam → points at other tabs with open notes. Click it to switch to that tab.

Choose Notes in the editor's ⋯ menu. It shows Notes (2) when the tab you are on has open notes. The sheet lists them, with resolved ones folded under resolved, and a line for each other tab that has open notes. Tap a note to jump to it.

Who sees notes#

On a shared song, everyone on the song sees every note. On a song only you write, notes are yours alone.

Notes are not the same as the co-writer chat, which is a conversation about the whole song. A note is about particular words.
