Search everything

Find a song, a lyric line, a note, a chat message, a recording or a concept from anywhere in the Lyric Genie web app, with ⌘K or the search box on Home.

Web app onlySearch across everything is in the web app. In the iPhone app, each tab has its own search field, and the Songs search also looks through lyrics.

One search box looks through everything you have in Lyric Genie: songs, the lines inside them, notes, chat, recordings, ideas, concepts and projects. Type a word you remember and pick the result.

There are three ways in, and they search the same things.

  • Press ⌘ K (Ctrl K on Windows and Linux) on any page, including inside a song.
  • Click the magnifying glass in the app's top bar.
  • Type in the search box on Home, under the greeting.

⌘ K and the magnifying glass open the command palette. It lists your results first and then any commands that match, so the same box also runs actions like "Perform" or switching between light and dark. See Keyboard shortcuts.

What it searches#

Group What matches Clicking a result
Songs The title, mood, theme and similar artists. Opens the song.
Lyrics A line of lyrics, on your tab, every co-writer's tab and the Master. Opens the song on that tab, at that line.
Notes The text of a note or a reply. Opens the song with the note open.
Chat A message in a song's co-writer chat. Opens the song with the chat open, at that message.
Recordings A take's name, or words in its transcript. Opens the song and shows the take in its Recordings.
Ideas A loose recording's name or transcript. Opens the Recordings page, searched for it.
Concepts The title, mood, theme and similar artists. Opens Concepts with that card highlighted.
Projects The project's name. Opens Songs filtered to that project.

Results come in that order, a handful from each group. A lyrics result shows the line itself and the song it is in, with Master added when the line is on the Master tab.

How matching works#

  • Every word must match, in any order. "rain window" finds a line with both words in it.
  • Case and accents don't matter. "cafe" finds "Café", and "dont" finds "don't".
  • Titles that start with what you typed come first, then the most recently changed.
  • Archived songs are included, after the others, marked Archived.

Search runs in your browser on what is already loaded, so results appear as you type. Notes and chat are read the first time you search in a visit, so they can take a moment longer to appear than the rest.

Using the keyboard#

In either box, ↑ and ↓ move through the results, Enter opens the highlighted one, and Esc closes the list. On Home, Esc also clears what you typed.
